Research interests

My Research interests concern the problems of image segmentation and image interpretation. I work on the possibility of integrating a syntactic approach and a semantic approach into a process of automatic segmentation. The approach used to make this integration exploits the potentialities offered by the formalism of graphs. The method is based on the control of the relevance of a fusion criterion used in an adaptive pyramid by matching the obtained segmentation with a semantic graph describing the objects that we look for in the image. This matching is made by checking the arc-consistency of an a priori defined semantic graph with two levels of constraint.

In this purpose, I study how it is possible to solve the multivalent matching problem of an adjacency graph (representing a segmentation) with a semantic graph (describing what we look for in the image) by solving a constraint satisfaction problem. So, I was brought to define the notion of constraint satisfaction problem with two levels of constraint as well as the notion of arc-consistency checking with two levels of constraint. It leads to study how to describe complex spatial constraints, to associate them with arcs and with nodes of the semantic graph and to exploit them in the algorithm of arc-consistency checking.

Finally I study how this approach maybe applied to the anatomic cerebral image analysis(MRI and IRMf), as well as to the extraction of knowledge in image data bases.
